AVS is a nonprofit organization which promotes communication, dissemination of knowledge, recommended practices, research, and education in the use of vacuum and other controlled environments to develop new materials, process technology, devices, and related understanding of material properties for the betterment of humanity.

AVS is comprised of:

6000 members worldwide

8 technical divisions

4 technical groups

20 local area chapters

The Society provides stimulating symposia, short courses, and educational outreach both at the national and local levels.
