Recent Vossen Winners & Their Experiments


purpose

To recognize and encourage the development of high school science demonstration experiments of interest to AVS.

 

eligibility

Active high school or middle school (Grades 6-12) science teachers in the United States, Canada or Mexico
are eligible to apply for this grant. The award shall be granted without restrictions except that family members
of the Board of Directors and Scholarship Trustees and their families are not eligible.

 

nature of the award

The award consists of an equipment grant of up to $2,000, a $1,000 cash prize and reimbursement of travel expenses
to attend the AVS National Symposium. The award is conferred annually.

 

establishment and support

This award is a memorial to John Vossen, who served AVS for more than 25 years. John served in the Society in many capacities,
was a founder of the Greater New York Chapter and served as President of AVS in 1984. John was an outstanding scientist
and a prolific writer having published more than 100 papers, book chapters, and was issued over 25 patents.
The memorial was established in 1996 with an endowing grant from his wife Joan and sons, John Paul and Thomas.
